Bad stretches of roads leave residents high & dry
Whenever it rains, residents of Tolichowki, Galaxy, Seven Tombs area, Nadeem colony and other adjacent areas shudder in fear. String of woes await them. Sometimes they have to tackle with the rainwater inside their homes. Most of the time they have to put up with rainwater outside.

They have to wade through streets inundated with rain and drain water. There is always a threat that one may fall into open manholes, which are not visible under the flow of water.
Seven Tombs road from Tolichowki junction is the worst affected during rains. The stretch up to Seven Tombs becomes difficult even for the vehicular traffic. Several educational institutions are in the area besides the historic Seven Tombs, a tourist spot promoted by the government.
Prof Maqbool Ahmed, a resident of Surya Nagar colony on Seven Tombs road, said that the stretch despite a tourist location is neglected by the civic authorities for several years now. “Only patch work is done and manholes are left un-repaired for a long time,” he says.
The stretch from Tolichowki junction to Dargah has got nothing left which can be called a road. Traffic comes moves at a snail’s pace on account of huge potholes. “Every day it is a tough task to move on this stretch. There is no alternate road towards Gachibowli,” says Rahmatullah, a techie from the locality. One can witness heavy traffic flow anytime of the day on the Galaxy-Gachibowli road.
Pipeline laying work for removing water stagnation points is still in progress, which is adding to the problem. One has to wait till this initiative is completed and whether it will easy the situation. Drawing attention to the vegetable market near Seven Tombs, Tolichowki Corporator Dr Ayesha Humera said, “Most of the vegetable waste goes into the drains clogging the free flow of sewerage.” The proposal for BT road on the stretch is with the Zonal Commissioner of GHMC and works would begin soon, she said.
Hundreds of people working in the IT companies live in the area. Most of the private and public transport vehicles ply on this stretch but the repair works are not taken up so far.
