One of the oldest religious centres of the world in Secunderabad includes St. Mary’s Church Basilica which is more than 175 years old. Every year tourists across the globe throng in numbers to have a glimpse of this monument which speaks volumes of its importance.

Manasa Devi Nagadevta temple located at Secunderabad Clock Tower is a legend which represents the fine art and a perfect religious aura of the city.The head priest of the Dhanunjaya told The Hans India, “The original deity Prathistha of Rati Naga Devata (which is also a form of ManasaDevi) was installed in the year 1867.

And the MoorthiPrathista of the deity took place in year 2011.” He added, “People who suffer from Kujadosham, who do not have children or are suffering from any kind of diseases or hurdles in whatever work they undertake, they come here and get blessed by the goddess.”

Sri SriSriHampiveerupakshaVidyaranya Swamy is the prathistapaka of the temple and Maruthi Gokul Mudiraj is the Alayafounder and the trustee. Every Tuesday morning at 6.30am ‘Abhishekam’ and ‘Kumkumaarchana’ is performed for the deity and this is attended by more than 1,000 people from across the city.

It is believed that, if this pooja is performed for 11 consecutive weeks, the deity blesses her devotees with prosperity and harmony. On the Sravana Shukla Paksha of every year, a holy procession of the deity takes place and the event sees the participation of almost 50,000 people. The procession is followed by ‘Annadanam’ where free food is provided to everybody who comes irrespective of their caste and creed.

Not only this, every year from Karthik Paurnami to Panchami the annual celebrations of the temple take place, which is attended by people across the States who come and have a glimpse of their beloved deity and get blessed. The occasion also sees several cultural performances of children and elders and also special poojas are conducted for the well-being of one and all. The priest also said, “The doors of this temple is always open for the needy and we make sure whoever comes here gets the help, what they need and get blessed by the deity.”
