Hyderabad: Taking serious note of the spate of attacks on the Dalits being made by a section people, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed the officials of the State Intelligence and the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department to inquire into the incident.

While the officials of the Intelligence wing have been asked to submit a detailed report on the series of attacks on the Dalits and safety measures to be taken to prevent recurrence of such incident, the officials of the SC Welfare Department have been instructed to find the reasons for the delay in the implementation of the welfare and development schemes.

Political storm is brewing in the State following the Nerella incident in which Dalits were allegedly assaulted by the police in a sequence to a violent incident. Apart from it, the police allegedly attacked a Dalit couple at Sultanabad village in Peddapally district. In one more incident in Manthani, a Dalit youth was killed allegedly by an upper caste group. It had created law order problem.

Recently, two Dalit youths at Alganur village in Karimangar district attempted suicide as they were not allotted land under 3-acres Land Distribution Scheme. They attempted suicide in front of the camp office of the TRS MLA Rasamai Balakishan. The victims are undergoing treatment in a corporate hospital in Hyderabad. Top officials told The Hans India that KCR had directed State Intelligence Department to submit a detailed report on the attacks and identify the political forces, if any, behind the incidents.

The State Intelligence wing Inspector General of Police Naveen Chand was directed to depute special teams to all places form where the incidents were reported and verify the facts. The intelligence wing is expected to submit a report in a week.

KCR also grilled the officials of the Scheduled Castes Welfare Department on the implementation of the schemes and the utilisation of the funds earmarked under SC Sub Plan.

The State government allotted Rs 14,375 crore under sub plan in the budget this year. The department has spent not more than Rs 500 crore so far.

Angry over non-utilisation of funds and failure in the land distribution scheme, the Chief Minister has decided to hold a special meeting with Special Chief Secretary to Scheduled Caste Welfare Ajay Mishra and top officials of the department next week.
