Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had decided to develop 2,170 square kilometre growth corridor with a width of five kilometre on each side of the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The HMDA had decided to conduct a comprehensive study and hired two consultants in this regard. According to a HMDA official, the growth corridor alongside ORR will not only enhance the annual revenue but also define the land use.

According to the official, the HMDA will define the land use, whether it is agriculture land, residential, commercial or others. It would retain a percentage of developed land to meet the cost of development of infrastructure. A senior HMDA official said the ORR is designated as Hyderabad growth corridor and the grid roads and service roads of ORR will be connected to these growth corridors.

He said after developing the growth corridors the land value will increase that would benefit the HMDA in enhancing the annual revenue. He said 718 kilometres grid roads will have 374 connecting points to growth corridors and service roads.

HMDA Commissioner T Chiranjeevulu said the department had hired two consultants for the study of growth corridor covering an area of 2,170 square kilometres which includes around 200 villages along the ORR. He added that the department will not develop layout or construct building, whereas zoning regulations and land use will be defined by the department and according to the detail planning report the land owner will have to take up work.

He said after defining the zoning regulations the land owner will have to take permission from HMDA to carry on the further development.
