GHMC in soup over cash squeeze
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is crying foul over the government\'s attitude towards providing financial assistance to their flagship programmes including double-bedroom housing for urban poor and Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) projects. The civic body officials claimed that the government gave them an oral assurance and nothing in written.
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is crying foul over the government's attitude towards providing financial assistance to their flagship programmes including double-bedroom housing for urban poor and Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) projects. The civic body officials claimed that the government gave them an oral assurance and nothing in written.
According GHMC officials, the civic body had been generating an average revenue of Rs 250 crore of which Rs 110 crore will be paid towards monthly salaries and about Rs 180 crore is spent towards civic maintenance. The officials said as of now SRDP and 2BHK housing project works started at only few places and the private firms which have bagged the projects are yet to claim the bills for the completed works.
A senior official told The Hans India that the civic body would finalise the tender for one lakh double bedroom houses and SRDP by the month end. As of now SRDP construction works started only at two places and once the pillars are laid the private agencies will start claiming bills and once the tenders are finalised for 2BHK housing work, which would begin from October, agencies will start claiming bills, he added.
He said once the works are in full swing the civic body will have to pay at least Rs 400 crore to clear the monthly bills of both projects.
The GHMC official further said the civic body will not be in a position to pay monthly salaries of workers and also bear the monthly maintenance charges of maintaining city sanitation, street lights and others.
