Government fiat to six departments
The State government has directed the six welfare departments to ensure timely release of disbursement of post-matric scholarships to all eligible students in the State.

Hyderabad: The State government has directed the six welfare departments to ensure timely release of disbursement of post-matric scholarships to all eligible students in the State.
According to the sources, earlier, the government had come under sharp criticism from the opposition parties alleging that the delay in the release of scholarships and fee reimbursement was causing untold hardships to the students in the State.
The delays had taken place mostly on account of lack of seriousness on the part of the educational institutions concerned in furnishing and updating the details of the students. It was against this backdrop the welfare departments had taken up the issue of timely updating of details.
Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official said that earlier the departments had faced problems in timely disbursement of scholarships on account of delay in the updating of data of applicants from the institutions.
However, the entire process has been streamlined by the SC, ST, BC, EBC, minorities and disability welfare departments. Following this the educational institutions were asked not only to update the details but also ensure to make necessary corrections if needed from their end, the official said.
As the government accorded top priority to its flagship programme of free education from KG to PG, the departments have been asked to ensure that all eligible students who had applied receive post-matric scholarships without delay.
Nearly 11 lakh students are to be provided post- matric scholarships, for which, the government had already released Rs 1,100 crore for the third quarter. The funds were released as against a verified demand of Rs 1,750 crore in the current financial year of 2017-18, the officials said.
So far, six departments had spent Rs 550 crore and steps have been taken to make further disbursement of funds as soon as the demand is received from the educational institutions.
