GHMC to observe Wed, Sat as dry waste collection days

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to collect dry garbage from door to door on all Wednesdays and Saturdays by observing them as Dry Waste Collection Days.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy has directed all the DMCs and AMOHs to take up campaigns in colonies and slums to verify houses and encourage them to collect dry waste and give to their respective Swachh Auto Tippers on the assigned days. The Municipal Corporations like Coimbatore, Bangalore, Mysore and others are successfully implementing dry garbage collection on different days.

The Commissioner said that the GHMC would implement the initiative by involving various stakeholders such as RWAs, NGOs to create awareness on waste management and importance source of segregation among the waste generation.

The GHMC is also planning to give more importance to the concept of wall of kindness involving various NGOs like Rotary, Lions Club, RWAs, students and retired people. The volunteers will visit each and every household of the particular locality and collect the surplus items like clothes, books etc., which will be given to the needy people for better utilization of the items.
