Liberation Day dharna by BJP

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BP) State unit president K Laxman along with N Ramchander Rao, G Kishan Reddy and other party workers staged a dharna in front of the Collector’s office demanding that the government celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day officially.

Addressing the gathering, Laxman said, “The Razakars had inflicted pain on the hearts and the minds of the people of Telangana and it was this very September 17, when with the efforts of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel we got liberation from the shackles of the torturous rule.

But, not fulfilling the promise of declaring September 17 as a holiday to pay tribute to the efforts of our historical heroes, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is insulting our history and people who helped us in achieving independence,” he said.

He further said being a leader Chandrasekhar Rao should live up to the aspirations of the people of Telangana. If the government does not do anything in this direction from 2019 onwards we shall start celebrating this day officially, he added. Floor leader in Assembly G Kishan Reddy said,

“We should not forget our history and people who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. By not fulfilling the promise Chandrasekhar Rao is playing with the sentiments of the people.” Later, the police foiled the dharna and arrested the
leaders.
