Hyderabad: Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Zonal Level Games and Sports Meet, 2017 took off at a glittering inaugural ceremony amidst fireworks, music, release of balloons and dazzling display of cultural programmes, on Thursday.
The five days competitions will witness budding sports stars from Social Welfare Residential Schools across Telangana in action in various sporting events including athletics, kabbadi, volley-ball, handball, chess, ball badminton, tennikoit, chess, carroms, football and kho-kho. This event will witness close to 10,000 athletes from four zones in Telangana competing with each other.
Government Whip Nallala Odelu inaugurated the Zone – I Games and Sports meet at Jaipur of Adilabad district and Ravindra Kumar MLA of Devarakonda inaugurated the Zone – III meet at Dindi of Nalgonda district. District Collectors and other officials participated in the inaugural ceremony in their respective zones.
Dr RS Praveen Kumar, secretary, TSWREIS congratulated the athletes and the staff for making the Zonal Games a platform for the future Indian sports stars. “We are living in a dynamic globalised world and collaboration between different cultures and races is the need of the hour. Sports and Games help in promoting the spirit of brotherhood and cooperation among people,” he said.
He thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Minister for Scheduled Caste Development K Jagadish Reddy for their generous support to the TSWREIS activities.
