Union Ministry of Forests and Environment has accorded first phase environmental clearances to the Palamuru- Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project (PRLIP). The ministry also accepted to issue Terms of Reference (TOR) for the much-hyped Lift Irrigation Project taken up by the Telangana State government.

Hyderabad: Union Ministry of Forests and Environment has accorded first phase environmental clearances to the Palamuru- Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project (PRLIP). The ministry also accepted to issue Terms of Reference (TOR) for the much-hyped Lift Irrigation Project taken up by the Telangana State government.

State government has already taken up a study on the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) of the project season wise. Project works between Narlapur and Uddandapur meant for drinking water supply were already taken up since it does not require environmental clearances. The project works for irrigation purpose would be initiated only after getting environmental clearances from the Union ministry.

The lift irrigation project Chief Engineer Lingaraju said that Engineering Staff College of India was entrusted the work of preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the lift irrigation scheme. State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao thanked the ministry for giving the clearances.
