Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is on high alert following the heavy rains that lashed the city on Monday. In order to resolve the public woes, the water board decided to pump in more men and machinery to keep a strict vigil on the situation.

The water board created an emergency control room at Khairatabad office with contact number 9989996948 for co-ordination with other departments. The control room would be functional for 72 hours starting from Tuesday.

In an emergency meeting held by the Water Board Managing Director M Dana Kishore it was decided that more large and small Air-Tech machines should be brought in to clear the manholes from debris and silt. Several decisions have been taken during the emergency meeting.

Special teams have been posted to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) control room for better coordination, senior officials would monitor the sewerage overflowing complaints, all deep manholes would be inspected by deputy general managers besides extending the period of emergency response teams for one more week.

Managing Director instructed the officials to distribute Chlorine tablets in slum areas to avoid pollution and drinking water sachets in inundated areas.
