Luxettipet: The Luxettipet police, along with dog teams, launched search operations looking for a gang of thieves, who allegedly looted the Gollakota Kodandarama temple in this mandal on Thursday night.

According to police, the thieves broke open the temple doors and took away gold and silver ornaments adorning the deity, besides the ‘hundi’.

The cops said that the incident occurred after the temple priest conducted pooja and the watchman locked the premises. The watchman, when he came to the temple on Friday morning, found out that the hundi was missing and the doors were broken open. He informed the residents and also the police.

The gang members threw the hundi near a well nearby, after pocketing the ornaments, estimated by the police to be worth Rs 95,000.

Local Circle Inspector Pratap and Sub-Inspector Sammaiah visited the temple and secured details of the incident from the priest and residents.
