Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) earlier in the month of August had planned to take up sports cum leisure entertainment arena. But it has been put on hold as the HMDA did not receive government permission.

The sports arena was to be developed in the area of 1.80 acre of land between Sanjeevaiah Park and P V Narasimha Rao Gyan Bhoomi. Earlier, the 1.80 acre of project site was under the usage of tennis court.

The lease period for the project was planned for five years from the date of agreement and the bidder was to design, develop, procure, install, operate and maintain the project components and a temporary structure should be developed within six months. The project rent was Rs 60 lakh annually.

The sports arena would have facilities including wired fenced mini cricket ground, health fitness club, indoor badminton courts, sports themed food court with a seating capacity of 75 people, futsal court, open air convention space, paved parking, mini theatre, indoor laser vaults, laser games arena and other facilities.

Officials in HMDA told The Hans India that the sports cum leisure entertainment arena project was planned to generate revenue to the department and HMDA had also decided to invite tenders for the development of the project but has been put on hold as it is yet to receive government permission.

He said that if the sports arena comes up it would be a one stop destination for sports and games.
