Hyderabad: The pilgrims bound for the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Yadadri would have to shell out more from their pockets for purchasing prasadam like laddu, pulihora and other items as the temple authorities increased the prices and the new prices would come into force from October 20.

The officials said that the prices of different varieties of prasadams have been hiked by 30 per cent. They said that the price of 100 gm of laddu has been increased from Rs 15 to Rs 20. There is an increase of over 65 per cent on the ‘Abhishekam Laddu’.

The 400 gm of Abhishekam Laddu, which earlier used to cost Rs 60, would now be available at Rs 100. Earlier, the temple authorities had increased the prices of prasadams substantially in February 2015 citing financial losses to the tune of Rs 80 lakh annually on the sale of prasadams. Within a couple of years, the temple management has taken a decision to further increase the prices and this time the reason attributed is the GST.

In the year 2007, the temple authorities had decreased the quantity to ensure there was no price hike, according to sources. However, the prices were enhanced by increasing the quantity in 2012, they added. “Since the prices of the raw materials in preparing the prasadam items have gone up, there was no other option but to increase the prices without compromising on the quality. We have been suffering huge losses in the sale of prasadams but still continuing so as to make available for all the devotees.

We cannot decrease the weight or quantity of the prasadam and hence decided to increase the price,” said a senior official.

Sources said that a single vada would now cost Rs 20, which used to cost Rs 15 earlier and a packet of Daddojanam would be available at Rs 15.

Executive Officer of the Yadadri Temple N Geetha confirmed the news of rise in prices of various items. Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, the temple EO said that orders have been issued for increasing the prices. The new prices would be implemented from October 20 onwards, she added.
