Hyderabad: Speculation over Telangana TDP leader Revanth Reddy joining Congress has stirred up political activity in Hyderabad on Friday.

While the TDP is in a state of confusion over handling the situation, the Congress party is divided into two groups; one which is welcoming the possible entry of Revanth and the other strongly opposing it.

While BJP is trying to assess the situation, ruling TRS is playing a strategic game of its own by poaching followers of Revanth.

The rumblings in the grand-old party is imminent. While leaders like AICC incharge of state affairs R C Kunthia and senior party leader V Hanumanth Rao feel that if people like Revanth join the party it would give a fresh lease of life to the counter opposition party, while leaders like D K Aruna and leader of opposition K Jana Reddy are said to be opposed to it.

Aruna told media that the party high command should not encourage individuals from other parties to join Congress as that would be of no help. If it is a merger of a party then the situation would be different, she said.

However, Revanth, who appears to have made up his mind to join the Congress, is meeting all the state Congress leaders who are opposing his entry and is trying to convince them.

It is learnt that Revanth is planning to join Congress in the presence of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi in November after Rahul takes over the party cudgels. Revanth also proposes to hold a public meeting after joining Congress.

Congress sources say that they are expecting exodus of TDP leaders into the party in the future. But in a sudden development, good number of followers of Revanth from Kodangal TDP joined TRS on Friday evening. It may be mentioned here that the Saffron party has also been trying to poach leaders from Congress and TDP.

Recently the state BJP president K Laxman claimed that some TRS leaders were also in talks with him. But it appears that there are not many takers for BJP here.

In the backdrop of this situation, BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar met Revanth Reddy on Friday. When asked to comment on it, Laxman said that it was just a chance meeting. He added that Revanth will not have any future in Congress.

Not to be caught off guard by sudden political moves in the state, the ruling TRS resumed ‘Operation Akarsh’. The TRS proposes to rope in the senior leaders or “their siblings” into the pink party to strengthen it at grass-root level before 2019 election.
