Mayor sings Swachh paeans

Hyderabad: City Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Friday said Swachh Hyderabad programme had been ideal across the country for Swachh Bharat Mission and that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) excelled in working for the national mission.

He said Swachh Hyderabad was ahead of Swachh Bharat mission in many aspects and it introduced many innovative initiatives in order to achieve the goals of sanitation and cleanliness.

He said GHMC set an example for other cities across the country and roped in different celebrities from various walks of life. He was speaking at a Swachh Sarvekshan programme in KPHB Colony.

Swachh Ambassadors Akkineni Amala, Chetan Anand and other prominent personalities attended the programme. He said public representatives, officials and other prominent persons had been roped in to participate in the programmes and encouraged people to follow the instructions of the civic body.

He said Hyderabad stood ahead of all other cities in terms of achieving goals of Swachh Bharat Mission in the previous year. He asked the officials and appealed the citizens to work for making the city top in the Swachh Sarvekshan this year too.

The Mayor said many celebrities and Swachh ambassadors had been segregating the waste at their homes and helping the civic body in waste management. There would be 4,000 municipalities participating in Swachh Sarvekshan for 2018 from across the country and Hyderabad would have to struggle a lot to remain at a higher position, he added.
