No Metro effect, RTC coffers swell
Contrary to the fears of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) of its revenue going down after the introduction of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, the proceeds of the corporation has increased by Rs 66,000 per day and the TSRTC officials now expect more once the entire metro rails become operational.

However, after the increase in revenue, the TSRTC officials have added 50 new buses of which 29 buses have been added in the stretch of IT corridor and the remaining 21 in four other corridors.
There are two regions in Greater Hyderabad Zone with 29 depots and fleet of 3,830 buses including over 200 A/C buses. About 33 lakh passengers travel in RTC buses every day. The income per day is at Rs 3.6 crore and expenditure is at Rs 4.6 crore resulting in a loss of Rs 97 lakh per day. Sources said that by 2016, the total losses of the zone were Rs 289 crore.
When asked about the same, a senior RTC official said the Metro Rail had not affected the service of the RTC, on the contrary, the revenue of RTC had gone up by Rs 66,000 per day. He said the passengers travelling by Metro Rail had been travelling in RTC buses as other means of transport would cost higher. He said after the increase in passengers and to facilitate software employees, the department has introduced of 50 new RTC buses in IT corridor and other colonies.
A passenger travelling in TSRTC bus, Pooja, said it took nearly one hour for her to reach Hitech city but after commuting by the Metro Rail, the travel time had come down.
Another passenger, R Sudheer, said after the Metro Rail was open for public, traffic problem in the stretch of Metro Rail had come down and reaching destination had become easier with the help of RTC buses as there was Metro connectivity in all the areas.
Meanwhile, to provide end-to-end service to the Metro passengers, L&TMRHL has decided to provide OLA cabs and OLA autos. OLA share would charge Rs 30 for 3 kilometers, passengers can even book OLA auto and would reach metro station in lesser time. While the OLA and L&TMRHL are in talks for parking facilities of cabs and autos at all the metro stations.
