Vij-Vizag air traffic to get a boost
Air connectivity between Vijayawada and Vizag is likely to increase with the e-Tourist Visa on Arrival (e-TVOA) facility provided at Vizag Airport by the Union government.

Till now, foreigners used to land at Hyderabad because of availability of e-Tourist visa facility and later come to Vijayawada by flight to attend important meetings hosted by the government at the Secretariat, Chief Minister’s Office at Velagapudi, Chief Minister’s camp office in Vijayawada or other areas in the capital region.
Henceforth, visitors can also land at Vizag Airport to get e-Tourist visa on arrival and come to Vijayawada by flight. Passengers rush is less at Vizag Airport compared to Hyderabad. Foreigners coming from East Asian nations of Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand can land at Vizag to get e-TVOA and later come to Vijayawada by flight.
Till now, Vijayawada Airport is mainly connected to Hyderabad. Only, two services are available between Vijayawada and Vizag. With the e-TVOA facility provided at Vizag Airport, there is a possibility of increasing air traffic between Vizag and Vijayawada. So far, the Gannavaram Airport is handling more than seven lakh passengers per year with 32 landings on an average every day.
If the air connectivity increases between Vijayawada and Vizag more passengers can avail the facility and fares may come down due to increasing competition. K Satish, a travel operator, felt e-TVOA will also be useful to the capital region also because it will give a boost to both airlines business and tourism.
Air traffic between Vijayawada-Vizag is gradually increasing with the government hosting mega conferences at Vizag due to availability of star hotels and infrastructure. Foreigners, who come to Vizag, for tourism purpose can also visit the capital region as part of their vacation in the state.
