It may be mentioned here that violence broke in Utnoor and several surrounding villages when some miscreants desecrated the statue of Raj Gond martyr Komaram Bheem at Betalguda village under Narnoor mandal on Friday, thus leading to a clash between Adivasis and Lambadas.
On the other hand, Utnoor, 270 km north of Hyderabad, is virtually turned into a fortress with heavy deployment of police. Three Inspector Generals, three Police Commissioners, one Joint Commissioner of Police and two Superintendents of Police, all stationed at Utnoor, have been monitoring the
situation.
In wake of the district bandh call given by Adivasis and Lambadas, the police set up 23 pickets and 16 check posts to ensure safety and security of the people.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (North Zone) Y Nagi Reddy met the aggrieved whose property was damaged in the clashes on Friday.
In a precautionary measure, the authorities directed all the networks to stop data services to keep a tab on floating fake messages through the social networking sites. It’s learnt that data services are likely to be restored late on Saturday.
Adilabad Superintendent of Police Mitta Srinivas said: “There was no untoward incident on Saturday. Security beefed up in the district drawing around 2,000 personnel from neighbouring districts in addition to 1,000-odd local police.” Further he appealed to people not to believe rumours.
The government deployed IGs Anil Kumar, Devender Singh Chauhan, CPs Vikram Jeet Duggal (Ramagundam), Kartikeya (Nizamabad), VB Kamalasan Reddy (Karimnagar), Rachakonda Joint Commissioner Tarun Joshi and Nirmal SP Vishnu S Warrier to oversee the situation in Utnoor.
It may be mentioned here that the region has been witnessing a simmering feud between the Adivasis and Lambadas for several weeks with the former demanding removal of the latter from the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).
