New Delhi: The Centre has accorded the environmental clearance to revised Kaleshwaram Project proposals here on Monday while asking the Telangana government to ensure the followings conditions:

As the submergence area is very large, micro-climatic change conditions in the project area during construction/post-construction period to be brought-out/reported at regular intervals. Plans for greenbelt development and reservoir rim treatment have to be made in consultation with the Forest department.

Preference shall also be given to plant local indigenous species. Solid waste generated, especially plastic waste, should not be disposed of as landfill material. It should be treated with scientific approach and recycled.

Construction work to be carried out after following due procedure of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. At no point of time, the land losers shall have any kind of grievances on compensation. The displacement shall be taken up only after complete land acquisition is done including providing full compensation to all the project oustees. Six monthly compliance reports shall be submitted to Regional Office at Chennai.

This makes the project one of those few which had secured such a clearance within six months. It is learnt that the CWC is also set to issue clearance shortly regarding the cost estimates and also from the Central Soil and Material Research Station over technical matters. The CWC has already issued clearances for the Hydrology, Inter-State Matters, Construction Machinery Consultancy, etc.
