Hyderabad: With speculation rife that the NDA government would go to polls earlier than the scheduled date, AICC president Rahul Gandhi seems to have focussed attention on revamping the state units of the Congress party in South India.

According to Congress insiders, Rahul Gandhi is contemplating going in for major revamping of the Pradesh Congress Committees from January. It is learnt that he wants to give prominence to young brigade who can go aggressive against the respective state governments.

As far as the two Telugu states are concerned, it is said that Rahul wants to start overhauling the party by replacing AICC secretary in-charge R C Kuntia with a leader who can strengthen the state units of AP and TS. This would be followed by creating a ‘Rahul dream team’ by March 2018.

Highly-placed sources in the AICC indicate that Rahul Gandhi is in the process of shortlisting the names of young leaders who have good oratory skills and leadership quality. It is still not clear whether he would change the TPCC president or not.

Sources say that the AICC president has chalked out plan A and plan B. According to the plan A, he wants a total shake up of the TPCC while plan B looks at minor reshuffle without changing the TPCC president.

He would also create a powerful team of vociferous leaders like Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy and A Revanth Reddy who have good oratory skills and leadership qualities. However, it is not clear whether this team would function under overall supervision of Uttam Kumar Reddy or would function as an independent target oriented unit exclusively for campaign purposes.

In all probability, sources say that Rahul may finally opt for change in the leadership of TPCC. AICC secretary Madhu Yashki Goud is also likely to be given important responsibility to help the proposed Rahul dream team to take on the TRS government.

Rahul Gandhi, it is learnt, wants that the proposed new team should play the role of a core team and go aggressive just as the Gujarat leaders had taken on the BJP government there and exposed the misdeeds and failures of the state government which helped them emerge as a major force. The Rahul Brigade in New Delhi is also preparing ground reports about the situation in Andhra Pradesh and what needs to be done to revive its fortunes in that state.

In Andhra Pradesh, the party has to face major challenge from the ruling TDP-BJP combine and the major opposition YSRCP. AICC is said to be of the opinion that the present APCC leadership cannot deliver the desired results. Hence a team in AICC is said to be studying the situation in AP and would submit an action plan to Rahul Gandhi by end of January.
