Warangal: The Warangal Commissionerate police on Thursday got down to collecting the data of persons with criminal history in the last 10 years. What they call the exercise is ‘Sakala Nerasthula Samagra Survey’ (comprehensive survey of all criminals), aimed at preparing the database of those with past criminal history besides geo-tagging them. As many as 350 special teams have been deployed to conduct the survey across the Commissionerate limits.

Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, who formally launched the programme at Beerannakunta and Sakarajukunta colonies under Mills Colony police station limits, also conducted the survey at various places in the Commissionerate.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the exercise is aimed at enumerating and geo-tagging the offenders with criminal history during the last decade, in a bid to make the State free from crime. He said that the police are also carrying out physical verification of the current address and activity of each offender. “The data collected will include photographs, fingerprints and other details such as their associates,” the Commissioner said. There are around 24,000 persons with criminal history in the Commissionerate limits. All of them were involved in grave offences such as murders, robberies, thefts, kidnappings, human trafficking etc., he said.

After the survey, a database will be created which will have a 360-degree profile of all the offenders. This data will be uploaded to the crime data analytics unit of the TS COP, a mobile app, the Commissioner said. The app would enable police to keep a continuous tab on criminals regularly besides monitoring their activities, Sudheer Babu said. The survey would also help police to review rowdy-sheet opened on offenders based on their conduct, he added.

“The resultant database of the survey is expected to instil a sense of certainty of getting caught and punished among the wrongdoers, thus leading to an environment of deterrence against crime,” Sudheer Babu said. Central Zone DCP Venkat Reddy, ACPs Prabhakar, Rajendra Prasad, Satyanarayana, inspectors Ravi Kumar, Nandiram Naik, Sampath Rao, Kishan and Santhosh Kumar were present.
