Telangana to announce new Solar, e-Vehicle Policies Soon

Hyderabad : The Government of Telangana, which is now working on new industry-friendly policies - solar and e-vehicle, will seek feedback on them from industry and people once these draft policies are ready, said Ajay Misra, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Telangana.

Announcing this, he said Telangana has achieved significant results in the power sector since its inception and the State will continue to cross new mile stones, including generating 10,000 Mega Watt power in thermal sector, in the days to come. “The Department of Industry and Commerce, Government of Telangana is currently working on e-Vehicle policy and our Energy department is working on setting up charging stations for electric vehicles,” the officer said.

Ajay Misra was addressing at National Power Summit held at Taj Krishna Hotel here on Friday. The One-Day Summit was organized jointly by the Department of Energy, Government of Telangana, Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd and Elets Technomedia Pvt Ltd. The objective of the Summit is to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration platform between the private and public sectors; and academia and research & development domains. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner and Josa Karre, Counsellor for Commercial Affairs, Embassy of Sweden, A Sudhakar Rao, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd, G Raghuma Reddy, CMD of Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd and officials from over 10 State Governments attended the Summit and shared their policies and development initiatives in the power sector.

C Srinivas Rao, Joint Managing Director, Transmission Corporation of Telangana Ltd, gave a detailed presentation on how Telangana transformed from darkness to light and how it was able to introduce 24x7 free power to agriculture sector in the State. He said the state is planning to achieve over 20,000 MW power in the future from present 15,210 MW power generation achieved.

The summit witnessed panel discussions on the themes – Large, Medium Capacity Renewable Energy (Solar, Wind, Small Hydro) Generation and PV Tariff Design and way-forward; Demand and Supply and Challenges and Opportunities for future sector; and Global Collaborations for Joint R&D projects.

Telangana is on the threshold of emerging as a power surplus state in next few years. The State Government, in line with the emphasis laid nationally and globally on the use of renewable energy, has been taking many initiatives to be at the forefront of renewable power generation and conservation.

Excellence and Leadership Awards were given to esteemed organizations, including private and public sectors. They include: Sify Technologies Ltd, Greenko Group, Hero Future Energies, Indian Energy Exchange, National Power Training Institute; Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd; North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd; Central Coalfields Ltd, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd; Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Company Ltd; Maharashtra Energy Development Agency; Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India;
