Plans afoot to turn barren lands fertile
In a bid to make tribal farmers self-sufficient, plans are afoot to make their barren lands fertile in Adilabad district. District Collector D Divya, who held a meeting with the Agriculture, Horticulture, Rural Development and Tribal Welfare officials here on Friday, told them to identify barren lands of the tribals in the district and prepare an action plan to turn them fertile.
Adilabad: In a bid to make tribal farmers self-sufficient, plans are afoot to make their barren lands fertile in Adilabad district. District Collector D Divya, who held a meeting with the Agriculture, Horticulture, Rural Development and Tribal Welfare officials here on Friday, told them to identify barren lands of the tribals in the district and prepare an action plan to turn them fertile.
“There is a dire necessity to take up the development of fallow lands for securing livelihoods of the tribals,” she said, pointing to the Indira Jala Prabha (IJP) aimed at providing assured source of irrigation to poor SC/ST farmers. She directed the officials to prepare proposals to create irrigation resource to every five-acre unit. Further the Collector sought to know the estimates for the bore-wells, pump sets and power supply etc. The DRDO Rajeshwar Rathod said that they had prepared an action plan in the past for 11,165 acres divided into 84 blocks under IJP that could benefit 324 farmers.
He said that they would conduct a field survey to know whether these blocks have electricity, borewells and groundwater availability. The Horticulture officials were also told to prepare a proposal crops that provide permanent income source on lands of Recognition of Forest Rights Act (RoFR). DFO Prabhakar Reddy and Horticulture Officer Narsing Das were among others present.
