Kothagudem: With the increase in Minimum Support Price for the red gram, the growers seem to be a happy lot. It may be recalled that the government has recently announced an MSP of Rs 5,550 per quintal of red gram. Compared to the last year, this year the government has increased Rs 500 on a quintal of produce.

Speaking to The Hans India, Payam Mutthaiah, a farmer, said that he cultivated the red gram as secondary crop and was happy with the yield. Another farmer T Narasimha Rao stated that the government was giving good support price for the produce and asked the government to encourage the farmers to take up red gram cultivation as primary crop.
Earlier, Kothagudem legislator Jalagam Venkat Rao inaugurated a red gram purchasing point in the market yard on Friday. After that, he directed the agricultural and marketing officials to create awareness among the farmers about the MSP. Stating that farmers welfare was government’s top priority, he thanked the Chief Minister for rolling out round-the-clock power supply to farm sector.
The MLA later interacted with the farmers who came to sell their produce and inspected the facilities at the market yard. MPP Kalesh, Marketing Committee Chairman Harilal, Single Window Chairman Hanumanth Rao and Agricultural Director Karunasree accompanied the legislator.
