Hyderabad : Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Nizamabad MP K. Kavita have assured that the State Government would purchase the entire Red Jowar grown by the farmers of Nizamabad, Nirmal and Jagtial through Marfed at Rs. 2300 per quintal from February 19 onwards.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, they appealed to the farmers of Nizamabad, Nirmal and Jagtial districts not to resort to any agitation and alleged that the Congress leaders were instigating the farmers for organising protest like Rasta Roko.

They said that the farmers have grown Red Jowar in these three districts on a extent of over 50,000 acres. However, due to the involvement of some private parties, farmers are resorting to panic selling. They said in the Congress-ruled Karnataka State in Bellary, the Red Jowar is being purchased at Rs. 1650 per quintal. Compared to Karnataka, the Telangana Government will be paying higher price in these three districts. They said that the TRS Government would protect the interest of farmers by purchasing the entire stock.
