Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University (PJTSAU) has decided to introduce legal course in its newly revised syllabus to keep the agriculture students updated on the changing scenario in the field of agriculture learning and research.

A decision to this effect has been taken following the revision of syllabus of various courses taught at the university and its affiliated colleges. According to the university officials, the growing convergence between agriculture and legal regulations has made the university to take this decision.

In particular, "Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Biodiversity Act and other national laws and international regulatory and compliance frameworks are increasingly converging between the agriculture and allied fields." Unless the students at the university and its affiliated colleges are not equipped, they would be lagging behind their counterparts in other parts of the country and abroad, it is felt.

Speaking to The Hans India, PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor Dr V Praveen Rao said the university had already stood second among the best Agriculture Universities in the country. Steps had been taken to ensure that the university secure a place of its own on the agriculture universities world map. As part of this goal, it was decided to update the syllabus and to give students and faculty of the PJTSAU national and international exposure to equip them with the latest knowledge and the best practices.

It is toward this direction that it has been decided to integrate the IPR and other issues related to the legal regulations and compliances as part of the study curriculum, he said.
