Jangaon: The activists of Communist Party of India (Marxist) have demanded the State government to immediately appoint a regular district collector for Jangaon district. The party activists took out a protest rally in the streets of Jangaon town and staged a demonstration in front of the district collectorate in support of their demand. They displayed placards and shouted slogans against the government’s alleged negligent attitude towards the district development.

Speaking to the press on the occasion, the CPM district secretary Moku Kanaka Reddy, leaders Botla Chinna Srinivas, Buditha Gopi, Y Aalia and others complained that with the transfer of former District Collector A Devasena, the development works were stalled in Jangaon district.

In the absence of a regular collector, there were none to monitor the progress of development works. Being the first District Collector, Devasena has made commendable efforts towards all-round development of Jangaon. But the government transferred her by giving in to the pressures from local TRS MLA and leaders, who developed a grudge against her as she worked honestly. It was wrong to transfer the district administrator because of political pressures and it has sent wrong signals to the masses, Kanaka Reddy noted.

It was quite disturbing to note that the TRS government was not able to appoint a regular collector even though it was more than a month since the previous collector was transferred. It speaks volumes about the functioning of the government in the State, he added.

The CPM leaders stated that the progress of works related to double bedroom houses, Mission Bhagiratha and others was severely affected since the in-charge Collector Anitha Ramachandran was not able to dedicate enough time to monitor the works. Hence the State government must appoint a regular collector forthwith, they demanded.
