Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, obviously prompted by sentimental reason, has decided to launch ‘Bus Yatra’ on February 26 from Chevella, 46 km from here.

It may be recalled that Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, when he was the Leader of Opposition in the united Andhra Pradesh, launched ‘padyatra’ 2003 from Chevella. The long march by YSR during harsh summer days led to the Congress party winning with stunning majority in 2004 elections.

Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu had also embarked on the ‘padayatra’ in 2013. YSR Congress Party President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is currently on the ‘padayatra’ in Andhra Pradesh.

The long march undertaken by YSR in the united Andhra Pradesh charged the course of history and inspired many leaders to follow in his footsteps in order to mingle with people and gain their confidence.

YSR launched march on April 9, 2004 and covered a distance of 1,470 km on foot from Chevella to Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district. It helped YSR see the plight of the farmers and deprived sections of people. It led to him announcing free power to farmers after he became Chief Minister.

Later, YSR had launched several welfare programmes from Chevella and implemented them successfully and won the election for the second term in 2009. The Pranahitha-Cheveall Lift Irrigation Scheme was also planned by the Congress government as part of its ‘Jala Yagnam’ programme.

The programmes were launched in the presence of P Sabitha Reddy, the then MLA from Chevella Assembly constituency. She was also invited to launch several programmes at YSR’s official residence during his tenure and she was endearingly called “Chevella Chellemma”.

In the same way president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) N Uttam Kumar Reddy too has now planned to launch the ‘Bus Yatra’ from Chevella and also in the presence of Sabitha Reddy. She is busy making arrangements for launching the programme.

The TPCC is determined to win the 2019 elections and leaving no stone unturned. The party leaders believe that the ‘Bus Yatra’ will work like magic and help inspire the party cadre as was the case of YSR’s long march.

The ‘Bus Yatra’ will cover all the Assembly segments. The party has invited Congress senior leaders for launching the programme. The ‘Bus Yatra’ will continue till June 1 and it will culminate into a public on the same day.
