Gadwal: The Gadwal Seed Men Association has embarked on a unique awareness programme for farmers to help them protect the cotton crops from the ‘red insect’ damaging the crops in the district.

As part of the awareness programme, the Gadwal Seed Men Association has set out on four publicity chariots, wherein each team will go towards one direction in the district and conduct interactive meetings with farmers and spread the message on how to protect the cotton crop from the dreaded ‘red insect’ which attacks the crop at the budding stage.

The four teams, as part of their four-day programme, will conduct the awareness programme for cotton farmers and impart knowledge to them by way of distributing posters, pamphlets and through audio visual publicity in every village, mandal and division level.

“Gadwal district is known for growing highest quality of cotton in the State. The cotton grown here is known for its seed quality and majority of the cotton seeds are supplied to farmers from Gadwal. However, because of lack of proper awareness and training on what steps to be taken to avoid the red inspect from being attracted by the crops, the farmers are incurring huge losses.

As part of this, the Gadwal Seed Men Association has set out to help the farmers protect their corps and get good yields as reruns,” said Rajat Kumar Saini, while flagging off the publicity campaign.

The association members, through their teams, will explain the cotton farmers on the menace of ‘red inspect’ and on various crop management techniques on how to manage the crop before sowing, after harvest and during the raising of the crop.
