Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Aravind Kumar inspected the Hyderabad Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project taken up by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at Jawaharnagar and 2BHK housing works at Ahmedguda on Thursday. 

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Aravind Kumar inspected the Hyderabad Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project taken up by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at Jawaharnagar and 2BHK housing works at Ahmedguda on Thursday.

He inspected how the solid waste collected from various circles of GHMC and how is it being treated at dumping yard treatment area. The treatment process includes separation (screening) into wet and dry in mechanised trommels. Wet (organic) waste is being shifted to composting platform where it transforms into compost in 4 weeks and the dry waste is transformed into refuse derived fuel (RDF) used for generating electricity or used as fuel in cement plants.

The Principal Secretary inspected the progress of capping of old legacy dump accumulated before the start of the project and the ongoing leachate treatment works in Malkaram Lake adjacent to the Jawaharnagar Waste Treatment plant.

He interacted with the officials and directed the concerned officials to take up the capping work on war footing basis to complete it in a stipulated time before the rainy season. GHMC allotted Rs 25 crores for 399 acres Jawaharnagar dumping yard where treatment of nearly 14 million tons of garbage was taken up. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and other officials were also present during the inspection.
