As a part of the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, the Telangana government will bear the costs for the Metro corridor between Biodiversity Park and Shamshabad Airport with extension of Corridor 3 from Raidurg to Biodiversity Park (30.7 km) while the cost for other corridors will be shared by the state and central governments.

Based on the recommendation of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRL), that prepared the preliminary project report, the decision was taken and the final decision would be made at the next meeting of the state department.

According to the DMRL estimates, the total project cost of the second phase will be Rs 14,023 crore of which the state government will pay Rs 4,645 crore for the corridor connectivity to the airport.

Metro rail experts and Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMRL) authorities believe that the phase-II should be a government project as it is being implemented in relatively less dense corridors and private investors are unlikely to fund the project given the overall national economic scenario.

Also, the airport corridor has been identified as an immediate priority since the metro connectivity to the airport will boost the image of Hyderabad as a global destination.
