Women must speak up for their rights: Kavitha

Hyderabad : The Centre for Management Studies, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad organized a Leadership Summit – Led by Women at a city hotel on Saturday. The event, celebrating the evolving leadership of women in diverse roles in the contemporary society has received a tremendous response from distinguished participants and dignitaries.

Nizambad MP K. Kavitha, as the Chief Guest, delivered a talk on “Celebrating Women as Champions of Change”. She encouraged young women to speak up for their rights as well as against the social evils they encounter. She passionately addressed issues of security for women, domestic violence and the need for clean drinking water that the government is working on.

Times Group Consulting Editor Sagarika Ghose delivered her address on the topic of ‘Courage to Lead: Inner Dimensions of Leadership’. She shared her personal experiences being a journalist and learning of perceptions of women about themselves and the other famous personalities. She explained the importance having a deaf ear when it comes to criticism, to achieve goals while understanding that solidarity among women is the main need of the hour.

Kali Prasad Gadiraju, President, TiE Hyderabad and Office Managing Partner, Ernst & Young had addressed the gathering on “Becoming a Person of Influence” by sharing the top five qualities he had observed and applauded in women working around him in his 35 years of career i.e. Having clarity of purpose, focus on the task, structured thinking, reliability and having superior emotional quotient made it to his list.

Dr. Amita Dhanda, Professor of Law, NALSAR had addressed the gathering on “Feminism and the way forward” opened up the discussion wider and opined that “Feminisms are the way forward” implying there are many point of views of feminist thinking which needs us to have more inclusive developmental models. Karuna Gopal, Smart Cities Advisor to Asia Pacific Nations spoke about how to position ourselves for the next big opportunity”. With examples from her experiences with the world, she strongly suggested women to not market or position themselves but focus on working hard to create a versatile brand that the world itself will entitle you with.
