Duo in cop net for conning DSLR camera owners
The Rein Bazar police arrested two for cheating. The owners of DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras were cheated following placing of an advertisement in OLX for rental purpose. Police recovered property worth Rs 5.5 lakh.
Hyderabad: The Rein Bazar police arrested two for cheating. The owners of DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras were cheated following placing of an advertisement in OLX for rental purpose. Police recovered property worth Rs 5.5 lakh.
According to police, the prime accused G Sandeep Reddy (25), unemployed and his associate R Krishna Prasad (19), a student, both residents of L B Nagar found that digital cameras were available on rental basis on OLX and decided to cheat the owners. Whenever an ad was placed, they contacted the owner and submitted fake copies of passport, Aadhaar, pan card and convinced that they would return the cameras.
In this manner, the duo collected 11 cameras from different locations in the city. The cases were registered in Rein Bazaar, Chandrayangutta, Kachiguda, Langar Houz, Meerpet, Saifabad police station limits.
In one such instance, a complainant who posted an ad in OLX regarding his DSLR cameras on rental basis received call from the prime accused on February 5. Both the accused met the victim in Yakuthpura. They submitted copies of address proof and then he handed over three cameras including Canon 1200D, Nikon 90D and Canon D1300 to the duo.
However, they failed to return prompting the victim to lodge a complaint with the police on March 16. Following investigation, the police found that the duo already cheated scores of others in similar fashion.
“On behalf of police, I appeal to the public not to get cheated by such offenders who are approaching through OLX and other merchant websites and do not handover their precious electronic and other articles on rental basis without any proper verification,” said Mirchowk Division ACP M A Javed.
