Hyderabad: CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat said the 22nd Congress of the party on the fourth day of its ongoing session has discussed the Political-Organisational report which was presented by politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, she said that 17 delegates from West Bengal, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam, Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat had participated in the discussion. During the discussion, a review had been made on the party activities in last three years since the last Congress, which was held at Visakhapatnam, and the directions of the plenary which was subsequently held in Kolkata.

Dismissing speculations over the differences between the party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and politburo member Prakash Karat, she said, there is neither a minority nor a majority. Once the Congress has finalised the political resolution then everyone is on the same page, she pointed out. A difference in view should not be construed in terms of majority and minority and there is no second opinion in the party on the issue of mounting a fight against dislodging the BJP-lead NDA at the Centre, which is remote-controlled by the RSS.

For this, the party’s political resolution had made it clear that it would not enter into any electoral alliance with the Congress party. But, it would continue to work with an understanding of the issues like communalism with democratic and secular parties. Also, the party will not have any alliance with any political party, but it was the local party units which would work with the like-minded regional parties to build people’s movements

Though the party has registered quite impressive achievements, it also has to ensure giving proper representation to women in the rank and file of the party from local to national level. On this issue, while there is considerable progress at national level, the same has not happened in several States, she pointed out. Also, the party had decided to work among youth, women, in addition to workers and peasantry. Keep in view of the social justice agenda of the party, it would also work on its new platforms of gender issues, Dalit and Adivasis, she said.

Brinda Karat said the Congress has adopted three resolutions. They demanded the introduction of Women's Reservation Bill, condemning Kathua and Unnao rape incidents and the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act and the Mental Health Care Act.
