Chevella: Here is an interesting legend how Lord Venkateswara along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi manifested at Chilukuru Balaji temple. A staunch devotee of Lord Venkateswara is in the habit of visting Tirumala annually. One year, he could not make the pilgrimage on account of the health grounds.

When he was sad for the misdeed he had done to the idol, a heavenly voice told him to wash the idol with milk. He complied with the direction leading to surfacing of the rare idol. The temple is simple without any show off. Devotees throng the temple in large numbers. They fulfill their vows to the deity. They have strong belief that worshipping the deity will help remove obstacles in securing visas.
The deity is fondly called as the Visa Balaji. The temple gained popularity during the past one and half decades. Not only from the surroundings of Hyderabad, people from every nook and corner visit the temple.
On several occasions, it competes with Tirumala temple in terms of the number of footfalls. People make 11 circumambulations around the temple to get their wish fulfilled. Once their wish is fulfilled, the repay the vow back to the deity by going round the temple by 101 times.
The temple, located on the banks of the Osman Sagar, is a very ancient structure. According to historical accounts, during the 10th and 12th centuries, the Rashtrakutas and the Kalyani Chalukyas had ruled the region. Rock edicts point out that several rulers, feudatory kings, royal commanders ruled the region with Chilukuru as their capital.
The Golkonda ruler Abul Hasan Tanisha and his ministers Akkanna and Madanna had visited the temple vouching for the fact that the temple is ancient to The Lord Rama temple at Bhadrachalam.
