Hyderabad: Taking cue from the BJP, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has now decided to strengthen the party at booth level and guide party workers to take the message of the party and the government schemes to the grassroots level.

Until now the party had no district and booth level committees and the MLAs and those who are in charge of the party in Assembly segments held by Opposition parties are taking care of the party. The recent Karnataka elections are said to have shown the way to the TRS where the BJP could win major chunk of seats even though the Congress government performed well during its tenure.

Recently, some of the party leaders had urged the Chief Minister to restructure the party. The leaders had pointed out that the party cannot depend only on the government schemes and that there should be a network of the party right from the higher level to the grassroots to take the message to the masses.

The leaders had brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that there was not a very strong anti-incumbency against the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah in Karnataka and schemes were good enough to win elections but still the party had to suffer defeat and the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the elections. The BJP’s strategy of having ‘Panna Pramukh’ (one party worker for each page in the voters' list at booth level) ensured the party’s voice reach the last voter in the list, opined a TRS leader.

The ruling party had recently organised a booth-level committee meeting where leaders said that there would be more such meetings in the coming days. Nizamabad MP K Kavitha participated in two meetings of booth level workers in a span of two days, which goes to show how the party has changed the strategy. The TRS leader explained the role of the booth-level workers and heaped praises on them.

Addressing the booth-level committee activists in Jagtial, Kavitha said that the activists have important responsibilities like bringing the issues of the people to the government and taking the government programmes to the people. “The government is doing many things even before the people have asked for them. It is necessary to ensure that the people know about them,” said Kavitha in the booth-level meetings.
