Hyderabad: Information Technology and Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao was the first person to give his blood samples for diagnosis at the launch of Telangana Diagnostics here on Saturday. The staff at the Telangana Diagnostics central hub set up in IPM campus, Narayanaguda collected blood samples from the Minister while his cabinet olleague and Health Minister C Laxma Reddy stood beside him.

KTR and Laxma Reddy earlier launched Telangana Diagnostics, a new initiative of Telangana government under which nearly 50-odd different diagnostic tests would be conducted for people free of cost. Speaking on the occasion, KTR praised the department for taking slew of novel schemes and initiatives to restore faith in government hospitals and healthcare.

KCR Kits, new dialysis centres in all districts, increased ICU and NICU (for new born) facilities, establishment of Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad are some of the few that are yielding good results, he said.

"It is observed that middle and lower-class sections are feeling the pinch of diagnostic tests that are being prescribed in dozen when people visit a private doctor. Telangana Diagnostics is being launched to bring respite to people on this front. Diagnostic tests, CT Scan, X-Ray, ECG etc. would be done and reports would be given within 24 hours," KTR said.

Speaking later, Health Minister Laxma Reddy informed that Telangana Diagnostics services would be extended to all districts in the coming months.

He said that free eye screening tests and creation of health profile for every citizen are the upcoming initiatives of government to restore people's faith in government health system. Laxma Reddy said that it is the time to create awareness in people about over usage of pain killers that lead to damage of kidneys. The Minister said that all Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad would also be brought under Telangana Diagnostics scheme in Hyderabad.

The Telangana Diagnostics central hub at IPM is linked with over district and area hospitals, 120-odd primary and community health centres in the state capital. Samples collected from people at these hospitals and centres would be transported in vehicles to central hub, where samples would be analysed, and reports will be sent to respective hospitals and health centres online in 24 hours. The respective staff would hand over reports to the people a day after collection of sample.
