Warangal: Most often many feel apprehensive about donating blood, but a woman in Warangal has overcome all her limitations to serve the noble cause of blood donation.

Tadepalli Jagadishwari Devi, who on this May 31 retired as bus conductor in TSRTC, has donated blood to the needy as many as 62 times so far. Her deed is said to be indeed an exceptional one owing to various health constraints women face.

A native of Chirala in Prakasam district of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, she settled in Warangal after she got a job as bus conductor at Warangal-I depot, following the demise of her husband twenty years ago.

She is now selected for ‘Best Voluntary Blood Donor Award’ from Governor ESL Narasimhan, who is the president of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Telangana and AP chapters, commemorating ‘World Blood Donor Day’ celebrations that falls on Thursday.

“I started donating blood in 1981 when I was studying intermediate. I first donated blood responding to an announcement by the college authorities, who wanted students to donate blood to victims of a road accident that took place at Chirala town”.

‘My father appreciated me for my act while my mother was upset. Encouraged by my father’s support, I frequently attended blood donation camps and donated blood whenever my friends or relatives faced any medical emergency,’ Jagadishwari Devi told The Hans India here on Wednesday.

She claims that she never faced any problem because of donating her blood. ‘Owing to my financial status I can’t do any big things for the sake of the society, donating blood is the only service I can render,’ she averred while revealing her intention of setting up of an old-age home in near future.

“One cannot lose anything by donating blood but will certainly save a precious life,” said another blood donor P Jitender, who is also going to receive ‘Best Voluntary Blood Donor Award’ for donating blood 59 times. He is a private teacher hailing from Parkal in Warangal Rural district.

There is nothing to be frightened of to donate blood, any person in good health can donate blood as frequently as possible and it is a great service to the humanity, felt a social activist Manduva Sathosh, who donated blood 25 times so far and Paladugula Surender, ‘Best Blood Donor Award’ winner, who donated blood for 59th time at recent blood donation camp by The Hans India-HMTV.

Parkal MLA Ch Dharma Reddy and the IRCS state managing committee member EV Srinivas Rao are also going to receive awards from the Governor at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad for their encouragement towards voluntary blood donation camps.

They both played a crucial role in collecting a total of 1,029 units of blood in a single day in a single camp organised by September 8, 2017 marking birthday celebrations of the MLA. It is said to be an all-time record in Telangana.
