TS Govt to remove encroachments from Musi River

Hyderabad : The fourth board meeting of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation held today discussed drainage plan, removal of encroachments and other issues.
Board Chairman Prem Singh Rathore, Principal Secretary MA&UD Arvind Kumar, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, HMDA Commissioner Chiranjeevulu, HMWWSB MD Danakishore, Medchal Collector M V Reddy, CEO of MRDCL Bharathi Holikeri and other officials attended the meeting.
Arvind Kumar asked the officials to formulate an action plan for removal of encroachments. He proposed a meeting with the Chief Secretary in a couple of days where in the officials from GHMC, Police, Irrigation and collectors of Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal would come out with a plan of action. The works on the Musi Riverfront project are set to gather pace with the government inviting agencies of national and international repute experienced in urban landscaping and riverfront development to participate in the design competition.
The Musi Riverfront project would be taken up in two phases. Under the 1st phase a stretch of 4 to 5 kms would be developed along with beautification, landscapes in the river stretch from puranapool to Chaderghat with the selected design and is targeted to be completed by the end of March 2019. The Hyderabad Water Works has been asked to take up the task of diversion of 42 Nalas through which sewerage enters River Musi. They have also been entrusted the job of setting up a comprehensive sewerage treatment plant.
Under the 2nd phase, Musi corridor is proposed with East-West connectivity as skyway, river conservation and beautification from the outfall of Himayatsagar and Osmansagar on West to ORR at Gowrelli on East with a total length of 57.50 km, so that the Musi River within the city will have a lasting legacy, setting the path for a sustainable, inclusive future. The development of the entire stretch would be completed within a project period of two and half years.
