Karimnagar: District Collector Sarfaraj Ahmed said that the government is striving hard for the upliftment of people belonging to weaker sections. The Collector inaugurated a three day training programme here on Tuesday. The training programme is about preparation of Ganesh idols using clay for Kummari Shalivahana Community here in Karimnagar.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector said that the State government by introducing special schemes for the people belonging to shepherd community and fishermen community is supplying sheep and fish seed on subsidy and is encouraging the caste occupations.

Because of the encouragement given by the State government about 15 to 20 per cent of people are continuing with their caste occupations and are teaching the same to upcoming generations, he added.

He said that the use of Plaster of Paris, containing harmful chemicals, in making ganesh idols is harmful to the environment and causes serious health problems to all kinds of living organisms.

The Collector appealed to the people who prepare ganesh idols to use clay by decorating them beautifully with natural colours for coming up Vinayaka Chathurti Festival.

Making Ganesh idols by using Plaster of Paris can eventually lead to many harmful diseases. When these Ganesh idols are immersed in fresh water resources the chemicals present in them will damage the water and it may also lead to the death of fishes and other aquatic organisms present in the water.

Collector Sarfaraj Ahmed appreciated the organisers for conducting a three day training programme on how to prepare Ganesh Idols with clay for the people belonging to Kummari Shalivahana Community. District Sports Authority Officer Ashok, Additional BC Development Officer Raja Manohar and others were present.
