Hyderabad: Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Tuesday directed Engineering officials to immediately take up the works pertaining to potholes by deploying additional labour and teams wherever necessary as most of the roads were being damaged due to continuous rains since the past few days.

The Mayor said though recarpeting of roads had been taken up before the monsoon, due to continuous rains, the roads were getting damaged and several potholes had been identified which were causing hardships to the citizens. He asked the Engineering officials of the State Road Development Corporation and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to coordinate properly for taking up recarpeting and restoration works.

The Mayor said the GHMC was having only one BT Hot Mix Plant at Chudi Bazar due to which carrying of the material to difference parts of the circles and zones was causing delay for taking up the works.

In this connection, after detailed discussions with GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, the Mayor directed the Engineering officials to provide temporary BT Hot Mix plants at Yapral, Fathullaguda, Khaitlapur and other GHMC sites by calling short tenders within three days for arranging temporary BT Hot Mix Plants within a week to 10 days.

The Mayor, along with the Commissioner, held a review meeting with Chief Engineers, SEs and EEs with experts from top most universities to take up road restoration works on priority to speed up the works as per the suggestions from the experts.

While interacting with the officials, the GHMC Commissioner directed the Engineering officials to have close coordination with HMWS&SB, BSNL, L&T, HRDC and National Highways while taking up the maintenance and restoration works without causing any inconvenience to the line departments. The Commissioner directed the officials to ensure that cent percent material was available for taking up restoration works and there should not be any problem while issuing the material to the contractors.

He further directed that the contractors must maintain quality and the work should be completed in a timebound manner. The Mayor and the Commissioner enquired about the difficulties which are being faced by the Engineering wing at the sites and assured them all possible help for taking up restoration works.
