Gachibowli: The high cost of compost machines is worrying hoteliers who intend to install them. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issued the order for star hotels and restaurants to install compost machines which generate more than 50 kg garbage per day before August 15.

There are about 60 to 70 star hotels and restaurants in the city generating more than 50 kg garbage per day. Speaking to Shruthi Ojha, additional commissioner, SWM and SBM, GHMC says, “We have also placed a list of vendors on the GHMC website from where hoteliers can choose. In the second phase we will give notice to communities and residents. She also added those who are not installing compost machines before the deadline, strict action will be taken on them.”

Aruna Shekar, Sun Green Organic Compost machine supplier, says, “We are supplying compost machines since 2008, the demand for compost machines is increasing from the past one week. Compost machine price depends upon the capacity.” Upender, manager, Zaika Hotel, Kondapur says, “Our hotel generates around 60kg waste every day. We are ready to install the compost machine before the deadline, but we have to incur cost.” Sayed, owner of Suprabhath restaurant Gachibowli says, “We will install this compost machine within four days in our premises. We generate 50kg of bulk waste daily. And we will use this compost for our gardening.”
