Hyderabad: Telangana Junior Doctors Association has welcomed the government’s move to constitute a Telangana Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board (TMHSRB). This will give a big fillip to public health sector in the State, members said.

T JUDA chairman Dr P S Vijayender said that establishment of a board would ensure recruitments were done regularly and in a calendar year without any delay. It may be mentioned here that long-pending demand of health fraternity in Telangana for a medical recruitment board is going to be fulfilled in coming days.

Government gave its approval for establishing a three-member board with Principal Secretary (Health) as its Chairman. Orders to this effect will be issued shortly. Once established, the board will take care of job recruitments of doctors as well as medical, nursing and paramedical staff in Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP), Director of Medical Education (DME) and Directorate of Public Health wings in the Health department.

Demand for a board cropped up after formation of Telangana State, and a high-level delegation from health department even visited Tamil Nadu to study the functioning of medical recruitment board in that State. The southern State established the board way back in 2012 specially to cater to job recruitments in health sector.

With Telangana government going on an overdrive to fill nearly 10,000 vacancies across all categories, establishment of a separate board would make the job easier for authorities.

There are many advantages of having an independent recruitment board for Health department along lines of Police Recruitment Board that takes care of filling of posts in police department alone, say the stakeholders.

One of the main reasons being cited is uncertainty in filling of vacancies due to procedural delays like obtaining the nod of Finance department each time and then knocking on the doors of TSPSC for filling some posts. If posts are not filled promptly, the affected ones are the general public ultimately, doctors opined.
