Cops hold peace committee meet
Warangal: Religious amity is the tradition of the people in Warangal. They maintain dignity and honour the festivals of other religions, Warangal Commissioner of Police V Ravinder said, addressing a meeting of the heads of various religions and Ganesh Navaratri Utsav Committees here on Tuesday. The meeting was organised to ensure peace during the Ganesh nimajjan (immersion) that falls on September 22 after the nine-day Navaratri celebrations.
The police officials explained the steps being taken for the peaceful conduct of immersion programme to the peace committee members. They also explained how the Ganesh Utsav Committee members should behave with compassion and assured that there will not be any untoward incidents during the immersion programme.
On the occasion, several religious heads expressed their personal opinions and promised to the police that they would maintain utmost caution and ensure that no untoward incident would occur either during the Ganesh immersion programme or during the upcoming Moharrum festivities.
The peace committee members assured complete cooperation to the police during their precautionary measures. They also reminded that the people of Warangal always used to celebrate the festivals of other religions with lot of compassion and fervour.
The Commissioner lauded that Warangal stood as a synonym to the ‘Unity in diversity’ and he is feeling proud for working as a commissioner of this city. He recalled that they had celebrated festivals like Ramzan and Bakrid a few days ago amidst religious fervour and in the same passion, they would now work for the Ganesh Navaratri and immersion programmes, besides the Moharrum processions.
He explained that several government departments are also taking part besides the Ganesh Utsav committee during the immersion processions and all efforts are being made for the peaceful conduct of processions. Wherever the roads are not good, the municipal commissioner was told to get the roads repaired and requested the organisers not to flare up tempers even if there are any troubles.
He said that Warangal is the second biggest city after Hyderabad in Telangana and is known for the religious amity, due to which it gained lot of importance in the state. Several industrialists are coming forward to invest a lot of money and set up industries in Warangal district and this would definitely increase the job opportunities for the next generation.
DCPs Venkat Reddy, B Anuradha, Srinivas Reddy and religious heads - Bhaskara Rao, Gangu Upendra Sharma, Khusroo Pasha, Jaipal Reddy, Siddique, Darshan Singh, Abdul Mazeed and GY Prabhakar were among others present.
