Rajendranagar: A workshop on ‘Optimisation of seed packing’ was held at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) on Saturday. Focusing on the scientific approach towards packing of seeds with optimum size packaging under standard procedure, the scientists discussed the technicalities involved towards ensuring longer life of the seeds.

The Director of Research, PJTSAU, Dr Jagadeeshwar presided over the programme, where principal scientists involved in research of different kinds of crops, officials representing agricultural department, seed development and procurement departments took part and discussed elaborately on different topics relevant to the seed storage.

The packaging of wheat, maize, cereals, oil seeds, millets in the bags with optimum size and quality were discussed, during the workshop. Dr M Nagesh Kumar, Director (Seeds) in his power-point presentation explained about the storing mechanism of the bags in scientific manner. The experts and representatives emphasised on the uniformity in making of the bags to ensure safe storage.
