Hyderabad: The Chennur Assembly constituency has become a bone of contention once again with government advisor G Vivekanand who is seeking the ticket for his brother G Vinod. The Chennur constituency has been in the news ever since Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced 105 candidates in September.
The party had denied ticket to sitting and three times MLA N Odelu and gave it to Peddapally MP Balka Suman. Odelu and his followers created flutter after he was denied ticket by the party. After the announcement of the candidates, while Odelu locked himself in a room and declared that he would come out only if his name is considered, a follower set himself on fire which led to his death.
However, the Chief Minister called Odelu to Hyderabad and pacified him and made him to fall in line. Odelu said he would work for the party in the coming elections and also called upon his followers to support the candidate nominated by the party. Suman, close follower of IT Minister KT Rama Rao has been campaigning in Chennur.
At a time when everyone thought that there were no issues with Chennur, government advisor G Vivekanand met Rama Rao and wanted the ticket to be given to his brother Vinod. When Vinod joined TRS, it was expected that Chennur would be given to him and Peddapally Lok Sabha to Vivek.
Vinod had earlier represented Congress party from the reserved Chennur constituency and also served as minister in Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s cabinet. Later, Nallala Odelu won the seat on TRS ticket riding at the crest of Telangana sentiment.
According to sources, Vivek met Rama Rao and wanted the ticket be given to Vinod stating that Suman cannot win from here. KTR is learnt to have told the senior leader that Suman was changed only to accommodate Vivek in Peddapally. With Vivek insisting on the ticket, the minister sought two days time stating that he would discuss the issue with the chief minister, said sources.
Sources said that the minister had told him that since the candidate had been announced for this seat, the party can accommodate him elswhere and offered reserved Vikarabad to Vinod. Vikarabad is one of the 14 constituencies where the party has not announced candidates so far.
Sources said that the government advisor was keeping his options open before elections. Sources also said that he may not hesitate to join Congress, which is said to be ready to give ticket to Vinod.
