Hyderabad: The convocation (Dastarbandi) at Haramain Sharifain Arabic English Islamic Model University will be held on November 17, at its campus situated near Osmania University in Tarnaka. Eminent personalities from Kuwait, Oman and Iraq will attend the programme as guests of honor and about 100 students from different faculties will be awarded degree certificates.

Founder Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammed Jahangir, along with the patron of the university, Maulana Syed Bahauddin Farooq, addressing a press conference on Monday at Media Plus Auditorium in Abids, said, “The university is the first of its kind where students not only memorise Quran and Hadith within a span of 11 months, but also become proficient in three languages, including English, Urdu and Arabic.” Farooq said Arabic is an international language and lingua franca among Muslims, as it’s the fifth most spoken language in the world, with as many as 422 million people of different Arab countries and Arab diasporas in non-Arab countries worldwide using the language. Many Indians too have good command over the language, he added.

The alumni of the university are doing wonders around the world as polyglots with command in English and Arabic, thus making them more efficient at work. They not only serve the cause of Islam, but also the entire humanity. In a first, the university is preparing to introduce tailor-made courses to teach Sanskrit, in addition to Hindi and Persian in the upcoming academic year. By far, it is the first Islamic institution to offer a course in Sanskrit.

The university will introduce an 11-month course in Tasawwuf (Islamic mysticism). Prof Jahangir, who has written nine books to teach Arabic using English, said that the university has gained popularity around the world for its unique curriculum and has garnered international appreciation. The scholars from the highly revered Al Azhar university of Cairo also acknowledged the importance of courses offered by the university, the professor added. The university has Department of Hifz (Memorization of Holy Quran), Department of Hifz of Hadees (Sayings of Prophet Muhammed), and Department of English and Department of Eloquence in Urdu.
