Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Maoist sympathiser and VIRASAM founder Varavara Rao’s residence at Gandhinagar on Friday. As the High Court on Friday scrapped the quash petition filed by Varavara Rao against the cases filed by Maharashtra police on him, the news spread that Maharashtra police were going to arrest him at any time.

Huge crowd including his sympathisers, human rights activists, members and leaders of people’s organisations and civil liberties associations and Left parties workers reached his house and staged protests there. They demanded the withdrawl of cases against Varavara Rao and raised slogans against the Central and State governments.

As the tension prevailed at his house, the police beefed up the security and brought the situation under control. They monitored the situation and made arrangements to meet any untoward incidents while arresting Varavara Rao. Earlier, Pune police has filed cases on Varavara Rao and five others in Bhima-Koregaon case.
