Warangal: The Warangal (West) MLA, D Vinay Bhasker, and GWMC Mayor N Narender have sought Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shanker’ cooperation towards the city’s beautification.

The MLA and the Mayor have called on Ravi Shanker in Bengaluru on Wednesday and submitted a report on current status of drainage system and other details related to the city’s developmental needs along with a memorandum.

It might be noted that during his visit to Warangal on November 6 last year, Ravi Shanker has asked the Mayor and the MLA to come up with development proposals and submit the same to him. Following which the duo have visited Bengaluru.

They informed that GWMC has been spread on 407 square kilometres with 10 lakh population besides a floating population of two lakhs arriving at the city from different parts of the State. The city was selected for the implementation of Smart City Mission, AMRUT, HRIDAY and Heritage City programmes.

With the lack of underground drainage system, rain water, sewage water flows in open nalas. The nalas with average with of 10 to 15 metres were spread around 36 kilometres. Hence the public were forced to bear the stench emanating from the nalas, they explained.

Since Art of Living Foundation has been engaged in cleaning rivers, water conservation and promoting greenery at various parts of the country, similar programmes could be taken up in Warangal city.

Efforts to treat sewage water and ensuring green cover on either sides of the nalas have to be made, Vinay Bhaker and Narender appealed.

Ravi Shanker, who responded positively to their appeal, assured to initiate measures in that direction. Similarly steps would be made to set up Skill Development Centre and Happiness Centres in the city, he added.
